Tee It Up for the Troops Wanakah, a WNY golf tournament dedicated to honoring, remembering, respecting, and supporting all those who serve(d) in the armed forces for this great nation, reached a new high in the event’s fundraising efforts with their 2020 event. According to event co-chair, Tom Waring, despite all COVID odds – the September tournament surpassed all expectations!
“This was our fourth year producing Tee It Up for the Troops Wanakah and there were certainly times when it seemed we might fall short of this year’s goal. Yet thanks to the inspiring generosity of the businesses, organizations, and individuals throughout Western New York and the endless support of Wanakah Country Club, at the end of the tournament, we reached our goal and are very proud of our four-year total of $375,000 given in support of national and local veterans, active military and their families. Certainly, it is a testament to the dedication of our community in honoring those who have given their lives for the safety and security of our great nation.”
The veteran’s groups that benefited from Tee It Up for the Troops Wanakah 2020 are VA Western NY Healthcare, an office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, providing emergency, transitional, and permanent housing options to homeless veterans and their families throughout the 8 eight counties of Western New York.
Higher Ground New York Military Program, a 501(c) 3 organization that provides innovative sports and recreational therapy treatment programming to enhance the quality of life for members of the injured military community and the local population of children, teens, and adults of all abilities/needs and
WNY Section PGA Foundation, created with the goal of providing support to various organizations, including veterans, in the Buffalo, Rochester, Erie, and Southern Tier through the game of golf.
Each organization was very grateful to receive a check for $10,083 dollars, especially in a year of uncertainty and increased need due to the pandemic.
“The Tee It Up for the Troops Wanakah Committee is grateful to the people of our community, who participated as sponsors, golfers, auction donors, and bidders, for their part in helping us increase the monies we were able to give to help our local veterans and their families. Erie County has the state’s second-highest veteran population, which is why our volunteer organizers are dedicated to continuing this tournament and increasingly raising funds to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.”
